Another great group of young people participating in the National Citizen Service awaited me at the University of Essex. Each workshop explores the Creative Industries and potential routes for young people.
During the morning smaller groups worked on themes they are concerned/passionate about. Once again I was impressed and surprised at the themes coming through. Every group talked about peer and media pressure, especially about the pressure on young women to conform to an unreal photoshop “ideal look”.
The groups also looked at:
- Black Lives Matter, which affects all of us in the BME Communities.
- Gender inequality and continued stereotyping of roles.
- Bullying – could Arts & Culture be used as an alternative diversion for bullies and the bullied?
For the 3rd workshop running, young people are concerned about Mental Health issues. This is a topic that teachers and those who work with young people are increasingly worried about.
Fabulous mood/story boards and posters were created for the presentation and here they are. Well done and good luck for your futures.
